Is an embroiderer with the In’ash Al-Usra Society, boasting over 39 years of experience in the art of Palestinian embroidery. She began working with the Society in 1988, having been introduced to it by her mother-in-law, who was also an embroiderer there. Iftikar chose to join the Society to hone her skills and help support her family amidst the harsh economic conditions of the Intifada years; she found in embroidery an opportunity to work from home—a dignified profession that provided a steady income.

For Iftikar, embroidery is far more than mere stitches; it is a Palestinian heritage passed down by women through generations. This is the very legacy the In’ash Al-Usra Society strives to preserve by creating employment opportunities for embroiderers to recreate this heritage using skills inherited from their mothers and grandmothers. After a career spanning decades, Iftikar continues her work today alongside her four daughters, who also work with her in embroidery.
